COVID skin care here we go! Acne flare ups are commonplace, I get lots of questions on YouTube and on Instagram asking why? Here are a few ideas, including solutions. Diet. This is a big one. Social distancing means stuck at home watching Netflix & YouTube with little social distancing to the fridge. Acne can be due to poor diet. Refined foods, sugar, & dairy can worsen acne. This is due to a spike in IGF or insulin like growth factor. Solution? Unfortunately it means less junk & processed foods. If it’s green, it's good (bar green jelly beans). If it is in a packet (bar nuts), generally speaking it has been processed. Sticking to whole grains, fresh meat, fish, eggs & a balanced diet can help improve some cases of acne. Stress can also flare up acne (amongst other skin conditions). Kids at home? Job stress, unemployment? Future prospects? All important precipitators & exacerbators of acne. Skype with a psychologist ! Yoga online, meditation videos...A dermo is not the best person to give advice on stress management. So, what can you do for your skin? Simple salicylic acid washes can be bought for as little as $8. Neutrogena Oil Free wash contains 2% BHA - Sal acid. Retinol lines are available from most skin care lines, including The Ordinary & the Inkey List. Higher end retinol include Medic8, AspectDr, Skinceuticals & Environ. If you are in the US or in Europe, adapelene or Differin is available without a script.
